About

The introduction of a new structure adjacent to an existing one raises questions of integration and architectural interpretation. The existing house denotes a specific aesthetic approach and different construction techniques of the time, while reflecting quite a strong character. A simple reproduction of the old would certainly undermine the importance and the authenticity of the existing. Our approach consisted of creating the elements of contrast: between old and new, solid and light, carving and filling. The outcome is the counterbalance between the immensity of the old house, and the lightness of the new. The 'web' and 'fold' principles were used to feature the modern character of the whole. The interior appears to be introverted. Different platforms play a game within the 'web' and 'fold' formulas, along with the living opened to the full height of the house. Space becomes a source of contemplation, while creating a dynamic game between different volumes and the stairs. This internal organization exceeds the feeling of being in a semidetached house.
