1st prize in housing competition organized by AGORA Belval-Nord
The project consists of 6 semi-detached houses and 13 apartments, together connected on the level of the common underground. At the beginning of the block, the building comprises semi-detached houses, which eventually transform to the apartments while approaching the other end of the building.
The architecture of the building is discreet and moderate; the openings are distinct; the volume is articulated. There is no front nor back. Its visual character is autonomous. The same design logic applies to both houses and apartments, while denoting different programs and respecting the individualism. This approach provides the dwellers with certain needed autonomy, but it also allows identifying with a larger scale of the block. The east façade highlights the entrance zone with a horizontal line treatment. South façade is characterized by big balconies, which highlight the longitudinal development of the building.
Private gardens with their reduced size leave place for the development of the future public park, to be inserted between new buildings. The idea was to preserve privacy, while giving the opportunity to the dwellers to benefit from the surrounding landscape.
